Accessibility video - The Brudenell Hotel and Seafood & Grill
The accessibility video we have created above is to help make your stay as pleasant as possible and looks to provide you with the need-to-know information should you wish to visit us and view our facilities ahead of time.
Below we have created a text-based version which includes the same information included in the video above for reference and should you prefer to read this information instead.
Visiting The Brudenell and Seafood & Grill restaurant
The building of The Brudenell Hotel dates back to the 19th century and opened as a hotel in 1868. With this in mind, we have tried to offer accessible facilities where the building allows.
Car parking
We have two small car parks for the hotel. The main car park is adjacent to the hotel and can be accessed via Brudenell Street. There are two blue badge bays as well as other car parking spaces available.
Where possible, we will reserve car parking spaces for blue badge holders who are staying at the hotel on request.
The second car park is a garage located opposite our Brudenell Street entrance. This is specifically for guests that are staying and while it is close to the hotel, due to the columns within the garage, the spaces do not allow for wide door opening for those that need extra space when getting in or out of the car.
There is also public car parks and on-street parking in the vicinity of the hotel.
Accessible entrance
Our most accessible entrance is located on the ground floor of the hotel on Brudenell Street.
This has a small step onto the tiled entrance. Following this, there is a set of automatic sliding doors into the hotel and then a door to your left, which can be opened by a buzzer and which reception will unlock for you.
The door is a pull door and therefore those travelling solo may need assistance to open this. If this is the case, please do make reception aware when they answer the intercom and they can assist.
The lift is located at the end of the corridor to your right. This lift will provide access to our public areas and the floors to our rooms.
The alternative route from this entrance to reception is via another set of double doors, this time these are manual opening, to our staircase, which has a handrail on either side.
Alternative entrance via Crag Path
There is a further entrance on the sea-facing side of the hotel from Crag Path.
There are four paved steps to reach our terrace, which has handrails on both sides.
After this, there are two routes to enter the hotel, a sloped entrance which is uphill into our lounge area, this is to the right of the entrance door.
Or via the entrance which consists of two steps and the opening of a manual single door, plus a further manual opening double door and three steps to our first floor, which has handrails either side.
Route to reception
If you are accessing the first floor from the recommended ground floor of the lift, you will find straightforward access to our reception, Seafood & Grill restaurant, lounge and accessible toilet from here.
From the lift, reception can be found by turning right and then right again. There is a reception counter on the first floor which requires no further steps.
The lift can then be used once more to access our rooms.
Staying at The Brudenell
Room 203
Room 315
Accessible rooms
The Brudenell has two fully accessible rooms, which are room 203 and 315.
Room 203 is classed as a Sea View Double or Twin, whereas room 315 is an Aldeburgh Double or Twin.
Room 203 is located on the second floor and room 315 is located on the third floor, both of which are accessible via our lift without steps.
Both rooms include wider door frames for wheelchair users, lower fixtures and a bathroom equipped with grab rails and a walk-in shower.
Alternative room options
Alternatively, most of our Superior and Deluxe room types have a separate bath and walk-in shower with a step, although there are no extra safety rails provided. Therefore depending on your needs, these may also be good alternatives. But please note, there could be additional steps in the corridors and within the rooms.
If you do have any booking requirements, we would advise calling our reservations Folk and we can provide you with more details and the best options available. When calling the hotel, press 1 for our reservations Folk.
Even if you have stayed with us before, if you would like to request a certain room, we would advise booking with us direct either by calling or through our website, as room allocations cannot be guaranteed through third-party booking websites.
Dining at The Brudenell and Seafood & Grill
As mentioned above, the most convenient way to access our public spaces including our lounge and Seafood & Grill is by using the lift via our Brudenell Street entrance.
Seafood & Grill restaurant
Our Seafood & Grill restaurant is over two floors, with the top floor level requiring no steps to access.
During service hours, the double doors to the Seafood & Grill are permanently open therefore providing easy access and ample room for a wheelchair user to manoeuvre to a top floor table.
Should you wish to dine on the lower floor, there are two routes to access this area, each with three steps.
The steps to the lower floor closest to the restaurant entrance has one handrail in place, whereas the alternative set of steps further within the restaurant does not have any handrails in place.
Full table service for food and drinks is available in the restaurant.
Our Folk are on hand to provide advice and assist with requests for tables with the best lighting or tables with less noise.
As this is an open plan restaurant, our advice may change depending on the number of tables booked at that time.
To help us make your experience the best it can be, we would please ask for you to let us know of any requests like this upon booking or check in so we can ensure that we are able to do our upmost to assist.
Accessible toilet
Our accessible toilet, which can be used by guests staying and dining is on our first floor next to the lift and across from our lounge.
Our Lounge
Our lounge is a wide, open space which can be accessed by two entrances and does not require the opening or closing of doors.
This area can be used by those staying, dining or looking to just have a drink.
There is a range of soft furnishing seating options from chairs with arm rests, to sofas.
Hot and cold drinks and food such as breakfast and cream tea can be enjoyed here.
This is the dining area where dogs are allowed and therefore, if you are bringing an assistance dog or a pet, this is where you will be able to dine together throughout the day.
During breakfast this area has full table service. For any other times we would advise for orders to be made at the bar in the Seafood & Grill.
The lounge also provides access to the sea view terrace, should you wish to enjoy your drink or a bite to eat outside.
Terrace
Our terrace is accessible via the two routes mentioned as part of our explanation of the Crag Path hotel entrance above.
The terrace only provides full table service during the summer season.
If you are visiting any time out of this period, we ask that you order food or drink at our Seafood & Grill bar.
Should this be an issue, please do let a member of our team know and we will do our best to help.
Private dining and events
We also have a private dining area called The Avocet.
This is located on the first floor past the lounge area and towards the men’s and women’s toilets.
There are two steps down and a manual door to the right before you reach the door of The Avocet.
Both doors mentioned open with a push away action, have a mortice door knob and could be considered as heavy.
The space within The Avocet differs depending to the way in which the room has been requested to be set and therefore if you are a guest, we would recommend speaking to the person who invited you to understand the layout chosen.
There is also a dedicated standard toilet for The Avocet, however should you require a wider space washroom we would still recommend using the accessible toilet mentioned earlier in this video.
If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with one of our Folk on 01728 452071 or using the contact form below and they will be happy to help.
